Here is the Heathmont deck after it was lowered 280mm by Sam Nott Carpentry & Timber Decking Now.
Giving an established deck a "haircut" is not a common request. This deck was originally the height you can see in the right. The owners had a problem with that fact! They thought it was to high and intrusive on the LH elevation beside the house, so they called DECAID, Timber Decking Now's oldest established trading name (2003) and the "haircut". Upon conclusion, Cassandra and James (the owners) stated in no uncertain terms how delighted they were with the result. Sam deserves a lot of credit for delivering this result. Luxury Townhouses require special consideration when it comes adding a deck. This up market home (above) in Melbourne's Eastern suburb of Heathmont, enjoys wonderful vistas of the adjoining golf course. The home's owners were of Scottish origin and retired. They were looking forward to morning tea on their new deck, whilst observing the local birdlife on the golf course. Timber Decking Now received a request to quote and offer ideas for the construction of the proposed deck. It did not take us long to demonstrate our ability through photos, references and practical knowledge. After receiving an additional two quotes, the retired owners awarded the project to Melbourne Deck Builders, Timber Decking Now. In doing so they stated "it's not all about price, it's as much about feeling good with the people you are dealing with!" Leafy Heathmont in MELBOURNE was the location Melbourne Deck Builders, TIMBER DECKING NOW was called in 2007 to construct this wrap around deck and verandah. There was no existing structure to demolish or alter, this was a straightforward addition in an overgrown garden. The owner cleared away the vegetation and trimmed the tree branches back to give the team a clear work site to work in. As with many of these older weatherboard homes, compromises had to be made with floor levels being a little out of "flat and true!" However, these minute compromises did not affect the integrity nor the ascetics of the finished product. Built by Decaid, part of the Timber Decking Now Group.
This swim spa was installed by Melbourne Deck Builders, TIMBER DECKING NOW's client to ward off the onset of a serious physical disease.
The original photo shows an old deck and an overgrown garden that was once a veggie patch. The deck had to be demolished and removed from the site and all the vegetation removed prior to an excavation of the the site for the spa. The spa contains EIGHT THOUSAND LITRES of water and therefore had to be installed on a 200mm thigh reinforced concrete pad.The spa was craned in over the neighbours fence and placed on its concrete base and supported by a galvanised steel frame. The subfloor for the new deck had to enclose the spa completely on all sides a shown in the photo. Access to the site was tough as there was only a side path down the opposite side of the home and around a corner which was quite overgrown small shrubs and flower beds. The chosen decking was a COMPOSITE material, due to its very high resistance to moisture, insect attack and practically ZERO maintenance. The project was demanding, but worth the effort. The lady owner was a delightful person and was showing amazing courage in her efforts to combat slowly her deteriorating condition. From the Timber Decking Now perspective, we were glad to have been of assistance and knew that the client had done her homework and chose very carefully whom she was going to trust with this project. As it turned out the client asked that Timber Decking Now take full control of every facet of the project, which we accepted and undertook in a very serious manner. The end result spoke for itself, nothing more needed to be said! |
