You've invested money, effort and time finding the best Timber Deck Builders in Melbourne to get good and functional decking, so you would like to ensure it looks its best for so long as it possibly can. Fortunately, it is easy and cost effective to preserve and protect your decking.
The Best Way to Clean Decking in Melbourne With a decking cleaner, you can get rid of dirt, mould, moss, algae and any grease to make your decking appears brighter and cleaner. Attempt doing this two times a year: in Springtime to prepare yourself for the Summertime, and after Autumn to get your decking ready for the winter months ahead. Step One First thing first! Remove all moss or algae using a scraper or stiff, non metal brush. Brush off any loose debris that is in or on the decking. Get the cleaner ready but ensure you read the directions on the packaging before anything else. As outlined in the instructions, apply it to the decking by means of a sprayer, brush or watering can with a rose. Step Two When you have applied the cleaner, scrub the surface instantly using the stiff brush, and leave it for some time. Step Three With a hose, rinse off completely with clean water and make sure you wash all deposits away. Let the timber decking dry for a minimum of two days before applying a protective coating. The best way to Restore Decking in Melbourne In case your decking seems somewhat weathered or has turned gray, before using any kind of protection, you should consider applying a restorer to return it to its real color. Hot Tip! When you use decking restorer for your decking, bit by bit, work on little manageable regions (3-4 deck planks at a time) so you are able to complete the application, scrubbing and rinsing in a short time. Safety Comes First! Ensure you wear safety goggles to shield your eyes in the event you are utilizing a pressure washer. Step One First, make use of a stiff brush to get rid of loose debris, then take any moss, mould, and algae off with the help of a pressure washer. Make sure that you have removed any current protector, and the surface is bare prior to when you start applying the restorer. Step Two With the aid of a brush, apply your restorer to your timber decking. Step Three After applying the restorer, immediately, work it to the top layer of the wood using a stiff brush or scrubbing pad. Thereafter, allow it to stay. Step Four Thoroughly rinse off with water that is clean by means of a watering can or hose, while ensuring you have washed all the deposits away. Allow the decking to dry for two days before adding a protective coating. The Best Way to Protect your Timber Decking For you to ensure your deck stays at it best, make use of a decking stain, protector, or oil annually as well as decking cleanser two times a year. When it's appearing weathered, make use of a decking restorer before you use a stain, protector or oil, to bring it back to its original glory. It is vital that you protect your decking annually to ensure it stays looking its finest. You can use only three kinds of products to protect your decking: decking stain, decking protector and decking oil. The degree of protection they provide is determined by the kind of brand you buy. You can, however, check with your timber deck builder for the recommended brand. Decking Protector This soaks into the wood to waterproof and protect it. Because of it transparent (see-through) color, the appearance of your timber deck will not be altered. These photos are part of a complex pool deck reconstruction around an "in ground" pool in Suburban Melbourne (Eastern Suburbs) during 2012.
The concrete pool was installed on a sloping site that protruded out of the ground on its East elevation. The owners wanted unobtrusive access to the back of their property, where they intended to have professional landscapers complete a delightful lawned area with rock retaining walls for entertaining. The deck has being "tiered" full length with a wide central step, giving easy access to the lawned area. In a tightly held pocket in Melbourne's outer East, there was once an in ground pool surrounded by a very dated slate and aged MERBAU deck. To complete this sad scene, an ugly 2.4M tall timber framed wall painted blue surrounded the pool area on two sides. The wall separated the pool area from what could only be described as a "vegetative waste dump" at the rear, which the new owners described as "Jurassic Park". Without doubt this project was the largest and most complicated pool deck MELBOURNE DECK BUILDERS (Timber Decking Now) had ever taken on. The existing 140mm Merbau has been fixed down with Stainless Steel "Philips head" 50mm screws, which promptly either stripped or sheared off at the head when removal was attempted, resulting in a long and arduous task under the Summer sun. Sections of the subfloor were rotted out and additional joists were added in the existing structure. Removal of the 2.4m walls revealed the full extent of the challenge ahead! Although access was good on foot, there was nowhere to place the extraordinary amount of building materials required to complete this very serious project. TWO HUNDRED & FORTY square metres (1680L/M) of H/duty135mm wide COMPOSITE DECKING was laid over hundreds of additional lineal metres of H3 subfloor, terrace benches and steps. The Timber Decking Now team had to carry ALL the materials some 50 metres down to the work site from the front yard "storage area". Three 12 cubic metre bins accounted for the waste and demolition materials in "Jurassic Park" along with hundreds of metres of old weathered Merbau pulled up from the various levels around the pool. The project took a four man team a little over a month working six day weeks in mostly very hot and tiring conditions. The end result was a TOTAL TRANSFORMATION into an extremely pleasing civilised leisure zone with a sparkling pool, beautiful lawns and rock work, BBQ nook, broad terraces featuring deck lighting and steps, plus easy access to the new landscaped garden at the rear. This magnificent composite deck was constructed during 2012 in Melbourne's outer Eastern suburbs. The clients original pool area was a very unattractive and dated entertainment area which consisted of 2.4M high screens, painted blue in colour. The original decking was a combination of slate & 90mm Merbau decking. The subfloor under the Merbau was very rotted in places where there was a lack of ventilation and the structure being in contact with the ground beneath. The 90mm Merbau was "screwed down with SS deck screws, which mostly either sheared off or stopped upon removal. Behind the screen to the rear was an area that had being used as a rubbish dump for all manner of garden waste including, tree limbs, stumps, grass cuttings, plastic plant pots, blackberries and building rubble. Timber Decking Now (Melbourne Deck Builders) had a brief to replace all the Merbau decking and rotted subfloor, extend the existing deck to the rear, tier the rear of the deck in wide terrace seating and steps, demolish the existing screens, and BBQ floor and facade, and finally lay over 200sq/M of new COMPOSITE decking with "picture framing & breaker boards".
This project was very complicated. It had to account for rises and falls in the existing slate pool deck, allow access to filter boxes, screen out the pool pumping and filtration equipment, realign and level the remaining subfloor, excavate clearances under the new subfloor areas and retain an existing Palm tree by building the deck extension around it, plus allowing for future growth and swaying. Timber Decking Now (Melbourne Deck Builders) completed the project over a five week period with no inconvenience to the owner in any way. The project was completed on time and under budget. |
