This swim spa was installed by Melbourne Deck Builders, TIMBER DECKING NOW's client to ward off the onset of a serious physical disease.
The original photo shows an old deck and an overgrown garden that was once a veggie patch. The deck had to be demolished and removed from the site and all the vegetation removed prior to an excavation of the the site for the spa. The spa contains EIGHT THOUSAND LITRES of water and therefore had to be installed on a 200mm thigh reinforced concrete pad.The spa was craned in over the neighbours fence and placed on its concrete base and supported by a galvanised steel frame. The subfloor for the new deck had to enclose the spa completely on all sides a shown in the photo. Access to the site was tough as there was only a side path down the opposite side of the home and around a corner which was quite overgrown small shrubs and flower beds. The chosen decking was a COMPOSITE material, due to its very high resistance to moisture, insect attack and practically ZERO maintenance. The project was demanding, but worth the effort. The lady owner was a delightful person and was showing amazing courage in her efforts to combat slowly her deteriorating condition. From the Timber Decking Now perspective, we were glad to have been of assistance and knew that the client had done her homework and chose very carefully whom she was going to trust with this project. As it turned out the client asked that Timber Decking Now take full control of every facet of the project, which we accepted and undertook in a very serious manner. The end result spoke for itself, nothing more needed to be said! Melbourne Deck Builders, Timber Decking Now, received a call from a lovely retired couple in KNOXFIELD. They were looking to build a good sized deck with a flat roof to gain protection from the elements. In addition, they wanted to instal a new sliding door in place of a window, plus a new matching replacement sliding door for an old raw Aluminium one. Natural light was a high priority, therefore the client chose 'Laserlite 3000' for the roofing. Not only would they be protected from the rain and UV, but also 'Laserlite 3000's' ability to reflect the Sun's infra red rays to reduce the heat under the roof. The chosen decking was 140mm Merbau, with an all H3/H4 subfloor. The series of photos (below) shows the construction taking place over a two week period. From start to finish our clients were typically gracious and looked after the team with tea, biscuits and cool drinks on a daily basis. In return, the team went the extra mile in making sure every detail was attended to the clients complete satisfaction.

On a mild October morning back in 2005 Melbourne Deck Builders, Timber Decking Now, began the construction of this Merbau deck in Rowville.
The brief was straight forward and basic. The owners wanted a low profile deck to place their outdoor furniture and a large umbrella on, so as to enjoy a little alfresco dining and drinks with family and friends. Secondly they wanted to keep the vista "open" and not feel confined by traditional handrails. After removing a totally dis functional landing, the deck was mapped out on the lawn using a line marker spray can and tape measure. Then, a stump hole pattern was marked out and the holes dug into the clay based conditions. The subfloor did not have a great deal or clearance underneath, therefore, the entire subfloor was constructed with H3 & H4 RH Treated Pine. Secondly, the plinth rails were generously gapped to allow a good cross flow of air. The handrail posts form part of the subfloor structure by passing through into a mass concrete pad, which offers excellent strength and rigidity. Finally, SUS 316 Marine Grade wire was custom fabricated to size and installed as specified. This brand new home in Croydon, in Melbourne's outer East was built into the side of a hill. Large high retaining walls were constructed with terraces to maximise the available space.
The home owners wanted the entire rear and side entrance decked using 90mm Merbau as the preferred finish. Access to the site was very difficult. The high retaining walls and terraces required all the materials to be carried down from an adjoining vacant lot of land at the rear. Thankfully the weather was on our side. This allowed the the materials to be placed close to the top of the cut. However, the steep path down meant care had to be taken when carrying lengths of timber and bags of concrete. The home was on three levels, with three individual access points onto the proposed deck. In response to this, Melbourne Deck Builders, Timber Decking Now designed the large deck with three different levels to accommodate the access points. Full width terrace steps married each level to the next, creating an expansive open deck which maximised the available space. The project in itself was challenging, but the end result was worth the great effort from all concerned. The delighted owners gained exceptional value for money and were full of praise for the totally issue free performance of the timber Decking Now team. |
