Timbertop is a small, prestigious estate on Rowville's Southern boundary. The homes are larger than average and the allotments are equally large.
Melbourne Deck Builders, TIMBER DECKING NOW, quoted to build an irregular shaped deck in a courtyard area on one such home in this estate. The client wanted a finish she could colour or stain to her taste. Therefore we suggested using 88mm treated pine decking, which is a "blank sheet!" finishing material, allowing the client to seal the raw surface in any solid colour or stain they wish. In this particular case, the owner chose a cypress coloured sealing stain, professionally applied by a qualified painter. The painter also painted the balustraded handrails in colours to match the existing colour scheme of the home. Although the work site was very tight, due to the shrubs and plants about the perimeter, the end result proved to be very functional when compared to the uneven and patchy grass conditions that existed before the project began. Treated Pine decking is an "entry level" finish that if installed correctly to allow for shrinkage (if the product is "new stock") can be both stained and sealed to imitate any popular decking material. There are a number of finishing products on the market that both "stain and seal" timber decking. A good paint retailer will have a wealth of information available to those wishing to make an informed decision. Online research is also an excellent avenue to gain an understanding of just what can be done. We revisited this site through an invitation by the owner to snap a couple of "before and after" photos of the "sealing/stain" and paint job. The owner was obviously very pleased with the "lift" the painting and staining job achieved. The photos show the dramatic difference a little informed planning can achieve. Another satisfied client! Luxury Townhouses require special consideration when it comes adding a deck. This up market home (above) in Melbourne's Eastern suburb of Heathmont, enjoys wonderful vistas of the adjoining golf course. The home's owners were of Scottish origin and retired. They were looking forward to morning tea on their new deck, whilst observing the local birdlife on the golf course. Timber Decking Now received a request to quote and offer ideas for the construction of the proposed deck. It did not take us long to demonstrate our ability through photos, references and practical knowledge. After receiving an additional two quotes, the retired owners awarded the project to Melbourne Deck Builders, Timber Decking Now. In doing so they stated "it's not all about price, it's as much about feeling good with the people you are dealing with!" Back in 2007 Timber Decking Now received a call from a young professional couple living in leafy BLACKBURN, an outer Eastern Suburb of MELBOURNE. The initial call was to construct a relatively small MERBAU timber deck to replace a broken concrete pad outside a recently renovated living room. Having won and completed the Merbau deck, the delighted owner then asked Melbourne Deck Builders, Timber Decking Now to construct the lovely outdoor gazebo style structure shown in the photos. The gazebo was to compliment the brand new in ground pool and surrounds, plus a permanent outdoor BBQ and entertainment zone. The structure features a hip roof, "Colourbond" roofing and fully lined with pine tongue & groove lining boards. The installation of the lining boards was the most time consuming factor in this project. Two full days were spent getting every aspect geometrically perfect. The photos show the gazebo at virtual completion except for the exterior lining of the Merbau privacy screen and the final finish on the complicated ceiling. Needless to say, the owners we're ecstatic with the result, which far exceeded their expectations. Their choice of colours and style flowed seamlessly from boundary to boundary. From our point of view, the gazebo perfectly complimented the resort style environment the owners had created in what was previously a very uninspiring rear garden area. On a mild October morning back in 2005 Melbourne Deck Builders, Timber Decking Now, began the construction of this Merbau deck in Rowville.
The brief was straight forward and basic. The owners wanted a low profile deck to place their outdoor furniture and a large umbrella on, so as to enjoy a little alfresco dining and drinks with family and friends. Secondly they wanted to keep the vista "open" and not feel confined by traditional handrails. After removing a totally dis functional landing, the deck was mapped out on the lawn using a line marker spray can and tape measure. Then, a stump hole pattern was marked out and the holes dug into the clay based conditions. The subfloor did not have a great deal or clearance underneath, therefore, the entire subfloor was constructed with H3 & H4 RH Treated Pine. Secondly, the plinth rails were generously gapped to allow a good cross flow of air. The handrail posts form part of the subfloor structure by passing through into a mass concrete pad, which offers excellent strength and rigidity. Finally, SUS 316 Marine Grade wire was custom fabricated to size and installed as specified. |
