This weatherboard unit in Box Hill South was almost brand new. Out the back was a very small deck of the type that builders instal to get a Certificate of Occupancy.
What the new owner wanted was an outdoor deck at floor level, SS wire inserts in the hand rails, and access via a Merbau faced set of steps to the clothes line. The deck was constructed on two levels to accommodate the owners desire to have a separate raised area for a small outdoor setting. The garden was fully established due to the unit being built as a"dual occupancy" on backyard site. The deck addition added real value to already desirable unit by way of creating a practical and appealing outdoor living zone. Melbourne Deck Builders, TIMBER DECKING NOW, we're very satisfied with the results of this project. The client was FAR MORE satisfied and made sure we knew it with a celebrative beer and a long chat on completion. Back in 2007 Timber Decking Now received a call from a young professional couple living in leafy BLACKBURN, an outer Eastern Suburb of MELBOURNE. The initial call was to construct a relatively small MERBAU timber deck to replace a broken concrete pad outside a recently renovated living room. Having won and completed the Merbau deck, the delighted owner then asked Melbourne Deck Builders, Timber Decking Now to construct the lovely outdoor gazebo style structure shown in the photos. The gazebo was to compliment the brand new in ground pool and surrounds, plus a permanent outdoor BBQ and entertainment zone. The structure features a hip roof, "Colourbond" roofing and fully lined with pine tongue & groove lining boards. The installation of the lining boards was the most time consuming factor in this project. Two full days were spent getting every aspect geometrically perfect. The photos show the gazebo at virtual completion except for the exterior lining of the Merbau privacy screen and the final finish on the complicated ceiling. Needless to say, the owners we're ecstatic with the result, which far exceeded their expectations. Their choice of colours and style flowed seamlessly from boundary to boundary. From our point of view, the gazebo perfectly complimented the resort style environment the owners had created in what was previously a very uninspiring rear garden area. This deck project in Kilsyth was one of those "ideal" projects, where every factor was in TIMBER DECKING NOW's favour!
The home was new, with no obstructions (like trees and shrubs). The access was excellent with a nice big side gate. There was plenty of room to place materials and set up a saw bench. Lastly, the weather was on our side, so there were no days lost where we were rained off site! The clients briefing was simple, "Build me a deck using 140mm Merbau, fill in around the sides and give me a Subfloor access door. Then, add a privacy screen, stainless steel wire handrails, and lastly a set of steps down onto the back yard!" "No problem" was our reply... and away we went and built exactly that. Needless to say, the owners were delighted with the result, as was their cat, which spent half the day sitting by the window watching the team and making sure all was been done to its satisfaction! Interestingly, TIMBER DECKING NOW (then trading exclusively under the name 'Decaid') built another deck identical to this one a year or so later in North Ringwood. The photos of this project "sold" the second one, when the North Ringwood owners said "build ours exactly like that one!" The BLUE sections in this deck and verandah are original. The raw unpainted sections are new construction by Timber Decking Now in 2005.
This Little project started out a small deck extension in East Ringwood. The lady owner then decided that she should have a verandah extension also. The original deck was 70mm Merbau (merboo) which is a bit of a rare things these days. Timber Decking Now started this project a few days before Christmas 2005 and went back after Boxing Day to complete the projects before New Years Eve. A bit of forward planning was required with this project being so close to Christmas and our suppliers being closed until mid January, it was essential that ALL the materials be delivered prior to commencement. There was no room for underestimating in these circumstances. As it turns out, all went exceedingly well and Melbourne Deck Builders, Timber Decking Now, had another satisfied customer. |
